A Waterfall Discovered

Joni sings "This Is My Father's World" and shares about a recently discovered waterfall in Northern California.

This is my Father's world, and to my listening ears
All nature sings, and round me rings the music of the spheres.
This is my Father's world: I rest me in the thought
Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas;
His hand the wonders wrought.

Ninety-two-year-old Dick McDermott used to mine the creeks that meander through the deeply wooded hills beyond his cabin. For years he slogged through the brush and hiked overgrown logging roads, hunting deer and gathering wood for his homemade fiddles. But even Dick McDermott says he's never laid eyes on the nearly 400 foot waterfall that park officials recently discovered in a remote corner of northern California wilderness. Mr. McDermott was especially surprised at the discovery since he's lived in the area for more than 70 years.

The beautiful waterfall roars and tumbles over three tiers before pouring into Crystal Creek - that such a spectacle evaded Mr. McDermott and park officials for all this time is remarkable. The waterfall wasn't on a map and no one around even knew about it.

All this just goes to prove that it's not the park ranger's world... or even an old-timer like Dick McDermott who knows the woods like the back of his hand... it's not his world either. This is our Father's world. And just like high alpine flowers that grow above the timberline that no one sees but God... that 400' high waterfall rushing and gushing all these years in private beautiful splendor... it was all for the pleasure and enjoyment of our heavenly Father. He has enjoyed it all these many hundreds of years. It is His world and it's all been created - yes, for our pleasure, to be sure - but it's been created for God's pleasure, too.

And so I celebrate with you today all the many undiscovered wonders of our Father's world... everything that exists... exists to give Him pleasure. Even a waterfall hidden in the backwoods of northern California.
