It’s spring! With flowers in bloom, how can you not be happy? Well, think again, because all around you, there are people who are suffering. Encourage them today with a note!

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada with a hymn for the season of spring.

Fair are the meadows, fairer still the woodlands
Robed in the blooming flowers of spring.
Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer;
He makes the woeful heart to sing.

Well, friend, if you’re not singing this verse this month, then you ought to! Really! Don’t you just love those words about fair woodland meadows and the blooming garb of spring? You could probably look out your back window right now and see at least a couple early-spring flowers, maybe a bush of forsythia, a few daffodils poking their heads up beyond your back porch. Spring, to me, is such a refreshment for the soul. No other season speaks so beautifully — or so profusely — of God's creative genius with every kind of bud and blossom, every bush that’s beginning to green up, so much color and it is so encouraging to see the barren landscape of winter absolutely come alive in spring!

I love where God says in the Song of Solomon chapter 2:

“See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land. The fig tree forms its early fruit; [and] the blossoming vines spread their fragrance.”

Wow! I just love looking at flowers, I love singing about flowers, and I love drawing them, too. In fact, I’d love to give you some spring flowers on at least a few of my spring cards. I have three spring note cards to give you with stock envelopes; just the right size to jot a quick note of Christian encouragement to a friend or a thank you for a gift or a dinner party or just a few words to boost a friend whose spirit is really down ‘cause they are going through an illness. I’m a big fan of writing notes to friends — just ask my friends! I guess it’s because I too enjoy receiving little notes. It’s just a wonderful way to strengthen the bonds between friends and now you can strengthen the bonds between you and your friends with these three cards and envelopes I’d like to send you.

There’s no charge, just consider it a ‘congratulations we made it to spring’ kind of offer from me, your friend. Just visit my radio page today at joniandfriends.org and ask for your free cards, or you can always write me at Joni and Friends, PO Box 3333, Agoura Hills, CA 91376. Finally, keep reflecting today on those beautiful words from that hymn, “Fairest Lord Jesus”: fair are the meadows; fair are the woodlands, and all the blooming garb of spring. And that wonderful verse from Song of Solomon, Chapter 2:

“The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come.”

Join me, would you, in praising God that He has brought us to a new season. And also, let us remember that Jesus is fairer; Jesus is purer. Jesus makes the woeful heart to sing. That’s something to celebrate, something for me to draw, and something to sing about and jot a note to remind others to do the same. God bless you and Happy Spring!
