"Sometimes" Song

We all will need assistance at some point, and we are blessed if we have siblings to help in times of need.

This is for you, dear sweet sister.

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada with a beautiful song about sisters.

Sometimes I need you to be tough
Solid as a wall of stone
when my enemies gather outside
and I cannot fight them off alone
let me hide behind your walls
So the arrows don’t get through to me.
And be like a fortress strong and tall
that’s what I need for you to be
Sometimes sister, sometimes.

That song is so gorgeous. It was written by Nancy Honeytree years ago, and when I heard it, I just had to sing it. The melody is so haunting, and the words are sweet, powerful. It’s how the bond is between sisters. There’s this closeness that just can’t be severed by ordinary problems; and we need our siblings. And that’s what this song is all about. It’s called “Sometimes” it is, and it is so lovely. I mean you can hear the rest if you want at joniradio.org. So take a minute today to enjoy all the lyrics and the melody and share it on your sister’s Facebook page; she’ll enjoy it.

The point beyond the song though, is that well; I need my sisters. Kathy is the one who saved me from drowning when I broke my neck. Jay Kay is the sister with whom I lived on the farm for seven years before moving to California to start Joni and Friends. And my oldest sister, Linda, often stayed overnight with me to give my other sisters a break. Yes, I need my siblings. It’s why God places us in families, that thing about needing and helping is what sisters do for each other. Someone once said, “Sisters are the people we practice on, the people who teach us about fairness and cooperation and kindness and caring, quite often the hard way." Well, Romans Chapter 12 verse 10 says, “Love one another with brotherly (or I should say sisterly) affection. And then it says, “Outdo one another in showing honor.”

Sure, my siblings and I did not always get along, but on the whole, blood was a whole lot thicker in our family than water. None of my sisters are getting younger; and perhaps that’s why, now that they are all in their 70’s, I feel so tender toward them. You can see this bond in this special video that was recorded of me and Kathy reflecting on our childhood years, and on my accident. What a handsome woman she is, and I’d really love for you to meet her on joniradio.org today as you watch this precious video. And finally, when it comes to your siblings, love one another, would you? Outdo one another in showing honor, like the Bible says, or bring reconciliation, because time is short, and the sun will soon set, and we won’t always have our siblings. So today share your favorite sister memory, would you? Share it with us on the Joni and Friends Facebook page, and don’t forget to visit joniradio.org not only to hear this beautiful song called “Sometimes” but go to joniandfriends.org to see that special video and enjoy a lot of family fun. And one more thing, we at Joni and Friends would love to pray for you and your troubles, so share with us your prayer need today at joniradio.org.
