God’s grace toward us is never ending. He constantly showers us with spiritual and earthly blessings.

The Constant Grace of God

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and welcome to Joni and Friends.

Earlier this year I had a chance to visit Niagara Falls, and we spent nearly all day enjoying those magnificent falls; we went in a tunnel under the falls, we got on a boat to get near the falls, we leaned over the guardrail to watch the water plummet over the falls. And everywhere we went, all day long, we could hear that constant roaring, the constant flood, the deluge of millions of gallons powering every minute over those magnificent falls.

Then we stayed long past sunset to watch a colorful light show illuminate Horseshoe Falls. We even ate in a restaurant by the falls and enjoyed watching the water lit by spotlights. Later, back at our hotel, I was just about ready to drift off to sleep, and I started thinking about how those cascading waters enthralled thousands of people all day long and into the night. But when everyone left, when the lights turned off, when the city went to sleep, when all was quiet, and everything stopped, those mighty falls didn’t. They continued to flow, with just as much force as during the day, and I smiled because to me, it was a beautiful reminder of John chapter 1, verse 16 where it says, “From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another.” Blessing after blessing after blessing, each one flowing into the next. The grace of God, always constant, always cascading, just like the Bible describes it: “grace upon grace.” One blessing after another.

Because think about it. You were once in darkness. You were once lost in sin. You were once heading into hell and hopeless. You were once doomed. But now, now you’ve been rescued (what a blessing that is); you’ve been redeemed and saved, delivered and atoned for. And God didn’t just restore you to the innocence of Adam when He saved you through Christ; no, rather He imputed to you the righteousness of His Son (you can’t get more blessed than that). He has given you hope and a home in heaven. He has given you a new name and a new purpose for living. He not only has brought you out of darkness and into the light, He illumines your path everyday through His Word. He’s made you a citizen of the heavenly kingdom and a co-heir of Christ. He has given you health and strength and breath. He’s blessed you with family and friends and a mission to accomplish.

He’s given you eyes to see and hands to work and feet to walk (and that’s saying something, coming from me, the lady in the wheelchair). Oh, friend, I could go on and on, because every day, God drenches us in a cascade of one blessing after the next. We live in a virtual Niagara Falls of God’s goodness, just as John chapter 1, verse 16 says, “From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another.” So I hope you will join me today in recounting God's blessings and thanking Him – thank Him profusely – for His goodness and graciousness toward you. I mean, come on, we just celebrated Thanksgiving last week; let’s continue on with that spirit of gratitude. Let’s put complaining behind us and stir up thankfulness in our hearts as we consider the powerful waterfall of God's goodness, ever constant blessings, always flowing our way.

Take heart today from these words by John Blanchard: “For daily needs there is daily grace; for sudden needs, sudden grace; and for overwhelming needs, there’s overwhelming grace.” Just like Niagara Falls!
