Joni shares how Jennifer makes restaurants her mission field as she witnesses to waitresses.

I'm Joni Eareckson Tada and it's time for "Joni and Friends!"

As always, it means the world when you choose to spend these couple of minutes with me as I open my heart about things I'm learning in this wheelchair of mine... learning from God's Word... and learning from some very interesting people. Like my friend, Jennifer. When it comes to being a witness for Jesus Christ, God has given my friend Jennifer a burden - a burden for waitresses.  Once every two weeks, Jennifer and her Christian friends regularly meet for lunch, but before they choose a restaurant, they pray (asking for God's direction, who they'll meet, the conversation and such).  Once it's decided where to lunch, they sit down and strike up a friendly chat with their waitress.  They learn her name and ask for her suggestions from the menu.  As the waitress checks in on Jennifer's table, the girls ask her friendly questions... how often or when she works her hours.  And they always give a generous tip, because if you're going to represent Christ to an unbeliever, make certain you showcase that He's a generous God, right?!

Jennifer and her friends will then visit that same restaurant at least five times, always asking the maitre d' that they be given the same waitress.  After so many luncheons, the women become friends with their regular server and it's just a natural thing to invite her to church.  I mean, what waitress wouldn't want to hang out with such nice new girlfriends, and be drawn to them, and be honored to go places with them?  Jennifer and her friends have hardly been turned down at all when they ask these various waitresses to come to church.  They've been witnessing this way for years and get this, after visiting scores of restaurants-and as many waitresses-they have seen 15 women come to Christ.

Acts 1:8 says, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."          I tell you, the power of the Holy Spirit sure does rest upon my friend, Jennifer - the Spirit always comes in power when God's people take Him at His Word.  Besides, she is only doing what's required of her from Acts 1:8, so we shouldn't think she's all that amazing.  But what is amazing is her creativity.  She and her friends not only have fun together over lunch; they make an outreach of it.  Waitresses are, in fact, their main reason for getting together.

Look, you probably know people in your community who need Christ - and maybe you have been witnessing to a favorite waitress for some time, or to a neighbor or someone you always run into at the gym or the market or at Starbuck's.  Well, I have a great salvation prayer - actually it's a beautiful poem - that I'd love to send for you to use as you intercede for God to open the heart of this unbeliever that you know.  So get on your computer when you have time and visit me at joniandfriendsradio.org - you can either download the poem, or we'll send it to you by just calling toll free 888-522-5664.  Again, all you have to do is just ask for the "Salvation Poem."  Again, that's joniandfriendsradio.org.  Finally, no matter where you go or whom you meet, you really can have an effective outreach for Christ in our community.  No, Jennifer will never organize a group called "Eating Out for Jesus," or plan a budget around it or print up brochures.  But this woman will keep on doing what comes naturally:  being a witness for the Lord.  And, friend, it's something that can come naturally to you, too!
