When We Fall

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. It was a sunny day and although my friend, Jim, was recovering from foot surgery, he yearned to sit out on the front porch. He thought he could do it without help. So he got his cane, and gave it a try. It would be the perfect opportunity to show his wife how well he was progressing. But just as Jim took his first step, the cane caught on a rug and down he went. Adding to his humiliation, no matter how much they tried, his wife could not get him up.  Finally, they called an emergency line and soon, two EMTs arrived and lifted Jim into a chair.  “Hey, rather than risk it,” they told him, “call whenever you need help.” It was then Jim realized that his pride is what kept him from asking for his wife’s help in the first place! Psalm 145, says, “[God] helps those who are in trouble; He lifts those who have fallen.” That’s something to remember the next time that you take a fall.
