When the Fight is Fierce

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada.  When the soldiers of Napoleon were weak and discouraged on the descent of the Alpine Mountains, we are told that their leader ordered “Sound the French Gloria!”  And the music gave the men fresh heart.  They pressed forward in triumph, you know.  A scene like that ought to encourage us Christians, as well.  A little like that line in the old hymn that goes:  “And when the fight is fierce, the warfare long, steals on the air the distant triumph song.  Then hearts are brave again, and arms are strong, hallelujah!”  Oh friend, today if you feel weak and discouraged; if your heart has become dull and you feel near defeated, sound the Gloria!  Some time before the week ends, put on a CD of the Hallelujah Chorus and let that powerful music refresh your heart.  Whether it’s a stirring worship song or an old hymn, tune your heart to brave music and press on, friend.  Press on.
