Victim or Victor

I remember the early days right after my diving accident when I was still trying to adjust to this wheelchair.

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and oh do I remember the early days right after my diving accident when I was still trying to adjust to this wheelchair. I recall thinking—actually, I remember saying, “I feel like a victim of a terrible accident.” An honest feeling, but the fact is, God’s children are never, ever victims, and nor do we have the right to play the victim. When Jesus was impaled on that cross, He didn't play the victim, saying, "I am finished;" rather, he said "It is finished." John chapter 19 records our Savior's words spoken out of his deepest anguish. The Lord did not play the victim, and as a result He emerged the victor! Now, I'm not saying that a person is never a victim of abuse or a tragic accident; what I am saying is, don't view yourself as a poor, helpless victim. Yes, someone may be pushing you out of your job, and your marriage may be a trial, but through Christ Jesus, victory is yours!
