The Terror is Transfigured

Hi I'm Joni Eareckson Tada and sitting in this wheelchair and dealing with chronic pain as I do, I will tell you there is great peace and relief when I don’t panic, but look pain squarely head-on and move forward into it; not resisting, not rebelling, but (how can I put it) relaxing into it. A Dutch theologian put it this way, “If only we will take the courage to fix our gaze deliberately upon the stern countenance of grief, and enter unafraid into the darkest recesses of our trouble, we shall find the terror gone, because the Lord has been there before us, and, coming out again, has left the place transfigured, making of it by the grace of his resurrection a house of life, the very gate of heaven.” Don’t you love that idea? Friend, whatever problem you are facing, face it!  Don’t resist, but relax and move forward into it. Because you’ll discover Jesus has gone before you and paved the way with grace.
