Surviving the Heat of Temptation

I’m Joni Eareckson Tada.  One August, I spoke at a conference in Palm Springs, California where it registered 118 degrees Fahrenheit in the shade.  Due to my disability I don’t deal with heat very well.  My body lacks any cooling mechanism, so I drank gallons of icy water.  Only when I super-saturate every cell in my body can I deal effectively with the heat.  And when it comes to the heat of temptation for us Christians, it’s a good analogy.  We do not have the resources to successfully deal with the hot and pressing demands of sin on our own.  The only way we can survive is by super-saturating every spiritual cell in our body with the Word of God.  That’s why Psalm 119 says that we are to hide God’s Word in our heart -- that we might not sin against God.  So if you’re feeling the heat today, saturate yourself with the Word of God.  After all, Jesus is Living Water.
