Songs in the Night

This is Joni Eareckson Tada. Have you ever been scared of the dark? When I was a little kid there were times when I hated being in the dark. This may sound silly but back then, when I felt scared, I would sit up on my bed and give myself a hug; really, it just brought such a sense of comfort. But there was something else I did—I sang. You know, the Bible says that God gives us songs in the night … He did it back when I was a kid, and He’s still doing it today, especially now when I sometimes feel frightened of the encroachments of age and disability. Friend, I don’t know what darkness you are facing today … maybe dark thoughts, illness, or loneliness … but my prayer is that you may feel the embrace (the hug) of Jesus. And may you sing a song—a song of help, yes, but also a song of praise. He will bring you comfort, and the light of Jesus will shine and chase away your darkness.
