Shadows

One of my favorite times of day is the late afternoon when the sun is setting and the shadows are crossing my backyard.

I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. One of my favorite times of day is the late afternoon when the sun is setting and the shadows are crossing my backyard. Ken and I sometimes sit out back in the shade of our neighbors’ pine trees to escape the heat of the sun. Trouble is, we have to keep inching our chairs to the left to keep up with that moving shadow. It moves, it shifts, it changes. Ah, but there is Someone who casts a shadow that never changes. James 1 tells us that, "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows." There’s nothing more comforting than the assurance that God is constant: that means He’s always compassionate, always merciful, always holy and full of love. Always the same. And He will always be there to shade and shelter you from the heat of your troubles.
