Most children compile a list of gifts they would like to receive for their birthdays, but not Sarah.

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. Most children compile a list of gifts they would like to receive for their birthdays, but not Sarah. Her mother shared with us that when Sarah turned eight, she wanted to donate her hair for little girls with cancer—a total of 14 and a half inches of hair! Her gift is especially inspiring when you consider Sarah was born with spina bifida. When asked why she wanted to donate her hair, Sarah said, “I didn’t want to just receive gifts, I wanted to give a gift instead of receiving.” This child truly understands the words of Paul in Acts chapter 20, that “we must help the weak and remember … ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” And parent listening, if you have a little boy or girl like Sarah who has a big heart for special-needs children, we would love to celebrate your child on our Kids’ Corner page! Just visit joniandfriends.org and share your story.
