Often when we suffer some hardship or deep disappointment, we can get so self-focused.

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. Often when we suffer some hardship or deep disappointment, we can get so self-focused. We shut down not only emotionally, but spiritually. Pain has a way of doing that; it makes us focus all our energies inward. But Second Corinthians chapter 1, tells us to focus our energies outward; to comfort others in their afflictions. Just as Christ suffered in order to benefit others; we are to resemble Jesus in the same way and let our suffering become a platform for reaching out to others who are hurting. So if, Christian, you have found yourself shutting down because of some pain or disappointment, get up tomorrow morning, get dressed, open your front door, and find someone else in your community who's having a harder time with life than you are. It’s a wonderful way of resembling Jesus, and it is the best way to move forward into life.
