Born in Uganda with a disability, 3-year-old Jared was neglected, starved, and abandoned by his father.

Hi, this is Joni Eareckson Tada. Born in Uganda with a disability, 3-year-old Jared was neglected, starved, and abandoned by his father. He and his 7-year old sister, Rebekah, were taken in by their grandparents. But there was a condition: Rebekah had to serve as her little brother’s caregiver. Although Rebekah loves Jared and does a good job taking care of him, she is forfeiting her opportunity to go to school. But our Joni and Friends interns and ministry partners in Uganda provided not only a wheelchair for little Jared, but convinced the grandparents Rebekah needed to attend school. And that’s just what she is now doing, with grandmom and granddad helping little Jared. Isaiah chapter 1 tells us to “Defend the oppressed and take up the cause of the fatherless.” Our interns advocated for Rebekah and Jared—and you can, too.  Join the cause at joniandfriends.org.
