Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. A few years ago, I battled breast cancer. As a quadriplegic, I knew chemo would be demanding on my body, but I did not know how hard. After my second round of chemo, I developed a serious lung infection. For ten distressing days, I waged war against a dangerous case of double pneumonia. During that time, I clung to a wonderful promise in II Corinthians chapter 1, “He has delivered us from… deadly peril, and he will deliver us again. On Him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us.” Wow! That promise was like a shield, protecting me from despair and filling me with hope. Spurgeon said it best: “I like, in my time of trouble, to find a promise which exactly fits my need and then I put my finger on it and say, ‘Lord, this is thy word; prove that it is so, by carrying it out.’” Friend, aren’t you glad we survive on the promises of God?
