Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. My friend Gracie was only 17 when she was in college, studying hard, keeping late nights… and one evening, while driving on the highway, she fell asleep. It was a horrific car accident. She remained in a coma for three weeks. Every bone from the waist down was broken – over 100 fractures. And eventually, both legs were amputated. Somewhere in the middle of all this trauma, Gracie married Peter. After they married, Peter became Gracie’s main advocate, and more than seventy-eight operations and thirty years later, their marriage remains strong. That’s not to say it’s been easy. Yet they’ve transformed their hardships into a passion to live for Christ. After all, marriage is not just about being in love; it’s about portraying something beautiful and powerful about Jesus Christ. That’s a good marriage reminder for us all.
