Overruling Emotions

You know, arguing is usually a big waste of time and energy, but… there is something to be said for arguing with yourself.

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. You know, arguing is usually a big waste of time and energy, but there is something to be said for arguing with yourself. In fact, it’s a biblical thing to do. 'Cause sometimes your soul needs a good talking to. We are so prone to listen to our wayward emotions, rather than the truth of God’s Word. Never mind what the Bible says. No, rather, our emotions insist on having things their way, “I’m going to feel sorry for myself, so there!” That’s what your feelings do; they try to run the show. Well, we need to put a lid on those feelings, and tell our soul a thing or two from God’s Word. It’s what David did in Psalm 42, when he said, “Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and God.” Friend you talk to your soul that way and your emotions will hurry to get in line.
