Mary Jane Ponten always wanted to be a missionary, but because she has cerebral palsy, her church just wasn’t clear on how she could serve.

I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. Mary Jane Ponten always wanted to be a missionary, but because she has cerebral palsy, her church just wasn’t clear on how she could serve. Mary Jane continued to pray and finally when she was in her late 60s, she heard about our Wheels for the World outreach. Although Mary Jane wasn’t able to fit disabled people to a wheelchair, she could join the team to pray and encourage others. Recently when she was in China, they set up Mary Jane’s encouragement table – and all the wheelchair recipients came to meet this remarkable woman. Mary Jane has served on more than 40 Wheels for the World teams and now in her 80s, she’s still going strong. God picked this remarkable woman to be a missionary-extraordinaire, all because of her disability. But why should she have all the fun? Visit joniandfriends.org to see how you can serve with us, too.
