I remember when Christen, our Wheels for the World team member, visited a 62-year-old man who’d lost both legs

I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. I remember when Christen, our Wheels for the World team member, visited a 62-year-old man who’d lost both legs. He was too weak and too old to come to our wheelchair distribution, so Christen did a home visit. When he saw Christen, he broke into a big smile explaining that he’d used his other wheelchair for 47 years. Wheelchair? What other wheelchair? Well, when Christen saw it, her heart broke. For 47 years, this dear man had been using an old wooden chair to which someone had fastened sofa casters on the four legs. He couldn’t push himself anywhere; he had to grab hold of counters and tables to pull himself around his little home. You can imagine his delight when Christen fit him to a real wheelchair! Talk about joy! And, friend, you can give the same joy. Visit joniandfriends.org to learn how you can change lives around the world.
