The Mirror

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And the other day when I was in the mall, I happened to pass a full-length mirror. It had been quite awhile since I had seen myself in my wheelchair like that. I tried to remember what I looked like in a mirror when I was on my feet, but those memories have faded. I am 64 years old now and I have spent far many more years as a quadriplegic than I ever spent when I was active on my feet. But looking in that mirror in the mall, I was able to smile. Because I think the years I’ve spent in my wheelchair have been far more wisely invested in the kingdom of Christ. For me, it’s a wonderful example of Romans chapter 8, verse 28. God has used my paralysis; He has fit it all together for my good and His glory. So, friend, don’t be discouraged about your hardships – they could very well keep you focused on the truly important and eternal things of life.
