Menial Tasks for the Lord

You know some people think that menial, mundane tasks don’t rate very high in the service of the Lord.

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. You know some people think that menial, mundane tasks don’t rate very high in the service of the Lord. Whether it’s cleaning up in the church kitchen after Sunday social, filling and setting out the Communion cups, or putting up fresh bulletin boards in the Sunday school rooms. Well according to Scripture, no task in God’s house is ever too commonplace. Proof of that is First Chronicles chapter 9, verse 28 where we’re told that “Some of [the Levites] were in charge of the articles used in the temple service; they counted them when they were brought in and when they were taken out.” Can you imagine? Day in and day out, counting all the hundreds of articles used in the Temple? Talk about mundane. But God sanctioned it; he ordered it; and he set apart those Levites to do the job: his job. Something to remember this Sunday when you are the one passing out the church bulletins.
