The Master Jeweler

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. I have a beautiful pair of gold earrings that a friend gave me. One time, the left ear ring fell off my ear.  When I looked for it, I accidentally rolled my wheelchair over it; I'd completely mangled the precious earring. My husband and I took it to the jeweler to see if he could fix it. In front of the jeweler, I put the mangled ear ring on the left, and the good one on the right. And I said, “Sir, can you make this damaged ear ring look like the good one?” He studied it and said, “Honey, I can’t do that, but I can make the good one look like the mangled one.” He then took his rubber mallet and began, bang-bang, hammering the good earring. And now I have a perfectly matched pair, and I think with all the mangled crinkles, these earrings look better. It’s a lesson for life. Let the Master jeweler handle the mallet in your life; it may hurt, but something far more beautiful and better will come of it.
