Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. When people ask about improving their writing or painting skills, I always say that a good place to start is to copy the masters. Whether it’s reading Margaret Mitchell (she wrote Gone with the Wind and she’s the master of the paragraph); or leafing through art books about Monet, John Singer Sargent, or Mary Cassatt, when you spend a lot of time with the experts, it sharpens your own creative skills. You become a better writer and painter for spending time with the experts. And the same is true in our Christian walk. Imitate the masters, and you won’t go wrong. It’s why the apostle said to his fellow believers in I Corinthians chapter 4, “I urge you to imitate me.” So, friend, spend time in Paul’s epistles; study this great Christian and see how he loved the Lord. Copying an expert in the faith? It’ll sharpen your own walk with your Savior.
