Lifting Spiritual Barbells

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. It takes a lot of work to live as a Christian, doesn’t it? To use a metaphor, it’s like spiritually curling 100 pound barbells. Almost nobody really likes to lift them. So what do we do? We discuss proper barbell-lifting technique. As Christians we listen to testimonies of famous people who have lifted record-breaking weights, and we collect books about great barbell lifters of the past. We do everything but actually walk up to the barbells and lift them! But Philippians chapter 2 says: “Continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.” Friend, it’s time to face that challenge, put your hands around that problem, and work through it in the name of Jesus. Because as you work out your salvation, God works in you—He’ll give you the desire, power, and strength to accomplish His will
