Let Your Life Overflow

I’m Joni Eareckson Tada.  I was reading Psalm 23 the other day and pulled to a stop at three familiar words: “My cup overflows.”  When something overflows, we usually think of waste.  Like, it’s too much, it all drains away.  But Romans chapter 15 says: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”  God doesn’t intend it as a waste; maybe some spillovers go down the drain, but the spillover of His love and goodness in your life is meant to be a stream of encouragement that you extend to others.  Trust and obey Him, and He’ll fill your cup to the brim, then more.  The overflow of His joy and love is what will quench the thirsty hearts of the discouraged and cynical lives around you.  Trust Him, obey Him, and let your life overflow.  There’s nothing wasteful about that.
