There was a time when I would read things in the Bible that really rubbed me the wrong way.
Hi, I'm Joni Eareckson Tada and there was a time when I would read things in the Bible that really rubbed me the wrong way. I remember soon after my accident I read, "Many are the afflictions of the righteous." Now wait a minute. Weren’t the righteous supposed to be the recipients of blessings? Weren't big problems supposed to be reserved for the unrepentant? That’s when I stumbled across another verse that said, "Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I have kept thy word." Afflictions force us to stay close to God. Yes, life is supposed to be hard (boy, isn't that the truth); and if you are in Christ, many will be your afflictions. But many will be the lessons God will engrave on your heart. I invite you to learn more lessons from those afflictions; just visit us at joniandfriends.org.
