Learning Humility

My friend Carol Danzig was a graduate from Stanford University and the wife of a doctor.

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And my friend Carol Danzig was a graduate from Stanford University and the wife of a doctor. But then contracted Lou Gehrig’s disease, and eventually, Carol lost use of all her muscles. One day she told me through her communication device, “Joni, when I enter a room full of people, I always pray, ‘Please, Lord, don’t let me drool.’ And what do you think happens? I drool.” Well, Carol may have been concerned that drooling made her look unpleasant or mentally out of it, but Jesus was concerned with her attitude. Psalm 25 says, “He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.” Carol realized that her drooling was God’s way of making her humble—and maybe, like her, the Lord wants to humble you, today. So whatever your embarrassing circumstance or awkward limitation, let it be a chance to humble yourself so that He might lift you up.
