Godly Joy

Sometimes people ask how I can smile sitting in a wheelchair for so many years.

Hi, this is Joni Eareckson Tada and sometimes people ask how I can smile sitting in a wheelchair for so many years. It's hard to explain. The kind of joy I experience is deep, solid, almost... heavy with the weight of importance. At the same time, this joy is light, free, airy and fun and happy. Such joy passes all human understanding. It's not an earthly joy; it's sent straight from heaven. That's what makes it so real. Friend, I don't know your circumstances, but you may be facing many hardships. Well, joy is possible. Not a giddiness that's here, there and gone tomorrow, but joy that’s available from heaven-on-high day in and day out. I can't explain it. I can barely describe it. All I know is, it's a gift from Jesus, for the Bible says, “There is joy in his presence.” When you experience his happiness, it passes beyond your understanding.
