God Does Not Sleep

Hi, this is Joni Eareckson Tada, and sometimes in those mad, midnight moments when hope starts to fade, and worries mount, and I find I can't sleep, I have to remind myself that God isn’t sleeping, either. He hasn’t caught a wink. He sits up with me all night. He bends down to hear my whisper. He knows every tear that falls, every thought that flits across my mind, and every expression on my face in the darkness. He is awake. Psalm 121 says, "He who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep." Sometimes at night when I hear my husband stir in the bed, I will whisper, “Are you awake?” Maybe when we find ourselves awake in the wee hours, we should whisper that same question to God. “Are You awake? Do You want to talk?” The answer is always yes.
