Drawing on Memories

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. The other day a friend sent me a scan of one of my old pen-and-ink drawings. It’s a drawing of Jesus, the Good Shepherd, leading his flock into pasture. I drew that sketch in the early 70s and it was one of the first things I’d ever done holding a pen in my mouth. Just looking at it brought back a flood of memories. You see, I drew it at a time when I was tired of being so depressed, but I was still struggling spiritually. I knew, though, that the best way to leave depression behind was to take small, forward-looking steps toward a more hopeful future. And just drawing that picture of the Good Shepherd was one such small step. It really helped keep my focus on Jesus. Oswald Chambers once wrote, “Leave the broken, irreversible past in God's hands, and step out into the invincible future with Him.” Hey, that’s great advice to get you moving forward today.
