The Consciousness of Our Sin

I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. I was only fourteen years old at that camp meeting where the speaker was preaching about the Ten Commandments, challenging us kids to measure our lives up against them. And as I did, I felt the crunch of First Timothy where it says:  "… the Law is made not for good men but for law breakers, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious." That was me? The Bible was calling me unholy? At first I was deeply offended. But then I began recounting all the wrong things over which I felt guilty. In short, the Bible hit its mark; and I experienced Romans 3 "through the Law we become conscious of sin." Once I was tuned in to what sin was all about, I was then able to make a real choice for Christ. Most of us would like to forget how sinful our sin is. But for the sake of our soul, we need to hear it, and do something about it!
