Change the Things You Can

I once visited a friend in a nursing home who was feeling depressed.

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. I once visited a friend in a nursing home who was feeling depressed. She was upset about the care she was receiving and the conditions of the facility. I suggested ideas such as talking to the nursing supervisor together, or raising money to purchase a better mattress, or getting her family involved. But no, my friend was convinced nothing would work. That’s when I told her, “You know, in the last six months you’ve been doing a great job of accepting the things you cannot change. But now, my friend, you need courage to change the things you can." And it’s good advice for you. Joshua chapter 1 says, “… Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; for the Lord your God will be with you.” It takes courage to change the things you can, so ask God to make you strong. You can begin making courageous changes in your life, as well.
