Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada.  After watching how cancer drew my husband and me closer together, and my friends and family, someone told me, "Joni, cancer has been very good to you."  I knew what she meant.  My battle against cancer removed all the calluses of life and exposed the matrix for what it is.  With cancer, all the frivolous things were cut away and what remained were my treasured friendships with my husband, my friends and my family.  Plus, the way we all battled my cancer together forged in us courage and a refined faith; it made us stronger, better Christians who kept focused on the important things of life.  So… has cancer been good to me?  Well, I don’t think a life-threatening disease can ever truly be called good, but as Romans chapter 8 explains, it certainly fit into a glorious plan for good:  my good, my husband and family’s good; and the glory of God.
