Asking God for the Right Things

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. There are many times I go to God with requests for healing, mainly about my pain levels; after all, my pain can be treated, managed and made better. But when people say they are praying God will heal me of my quadriplegia (a permanent injury I’ve had for 46 years), I will say, "thank you for wanting to pray for me, friend. And would you like to know how you can pray specifically? Ask God to uproot my selfish spirit, peevish attitude, doubts and fears, my laziness about spiritual things, my itchiness to get things my way... These are the sorts of things from which I’d love to be healed." And you know what? Those are the things my Savior is most concerned about. Yes, he heals all our infirmities, but what encompasses those infirmities? They are the sins that paralyze us. Sin is a disability you do not want. So today, be healed in a way that counts for eternity.
