Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. Recently, my friend was at an exhibit that featured all kinds of specialized lures for flyfishing; the exhibit was called “The Art of Deception.” It was a fascinating title, so she snapped a photo of it on the banner so I could show my husband Ken who (as we all know) is an expert fly fisherman. Because, how does one flycast for a fish? Well, it’s the art of deception. Ken creates a lure that most closely resembles a real bug, grasshopper, insect—the more life-like the copy, the better the chance of fooling a smart fish! And how does Satan entrap us? The same way: he entices us with endless copies of God's true gifts, and he lures us with temptations that appear to offer genuine pleasure . But it's a lie! Your adversary is an expert at deception, looking to snag you into sin if he can. And that’s just my little spiritual, fly-fishing lesson for you today.
