Anxiety and Pain

You know, living with chronic pain, I have come to see that our adversary, the devil, he delights in using anxious feelings to divert our focus from trusting God.

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. You know, living with chronic pain, I have come to see that our adversary, the devil, he delights in using anxious feelings to divert our focus from trusting God. I know that every day—every single day—I have to dismantle anxious thoughts and make them captive to Christ. Thoughts like: What if my pain means I can’t get to sleep tonight? Or What if something happens to my husband Ken and he can’t take care of me? And the really big one: What about the future? What if my pain gets worse? How do I take those thoughts captive to Christ? I face the fact that if, indeed, I have to live in pain, so be it. God will be my ever-present help. I am not to fear it; I am to face it. Because even in that God will rescue me. He will gloriously deliver me into the other side of eternity. And friend, what is true for me today is also true for you.
