It is the start of a new year... Can you believe it? Think about the past year, the blessings God has brought to your life and the moments that grew your faith. Maybe in 2019 you want to set your intentions to do more in your relationship with the Lord. A new year symbolizes a new beginning and gives us a chance to press refresh.

Reflecting on your New Year Resolution and your intentions for 2019 may seem daunting... maybe you don’t know where to start. But as we celebrate 40 years of ministry in 2019, Joni and Friends has many opportunities to help grow your faith and inspire you in the New Year!

1. Sign up to receive our Daily Devotional

Matthew 6:33 reminds us to “...seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” In 2019 we will be following along with A Spectacle of Glory. In this devotional, you will find great comfort and encouragement by focusing on the one who longs to lead and guide you every step of the way, every day. Don’t ever think your life is too ordinary, your world too small, or your work too insignificant. All of it is a stage set for you to glorify God.

2. Read through the Bible in 2019

Reading through God’s Word every day serves as a firm foundation for any goal. Maybe you want to eat healthier? You can find motivation to eat healthier in 1 Corinthians 5:19-20, “Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit… therefore glorify God in your body.” And even in 1 Corinthians 10:31 it says, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

Or how about that goal to better steward your money in 2019? You can find encouragement in 1 Corinthians 16:2, "On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and store it up, as he may prosper, so that there will be no collecting when I come."

No matter what the circumstance, there is always a word of hope, peace, and instruction for you in the Bible. And this year, for the first time ever, we’ve made things a little easier for those who want to follow along. Each day’s reading has been included in Joni's 2019 planner. You can also sign up to receive monthly emails from Joni as she shares what she is learning reading through the Bible chronologically!

3. Join our Prayer Team

Every morning at Joni and Friends, our staff gathers at 8:00am to pray. Prayer is essential for the movement of the Gospel, it is mobilized by Jesus's disciples who are committed to prayer. We are called to not only do the work of the Lord, but to also be diligent in prayer. In Luke 5:15 we see that “...Jesus Himself would often slip away to the wilderness to pray.”

Would you like to serve Joni and Friends through prayer? Join us as we diligently pray for any specific needs that are shared by friends of the ministry. Please email

response@joniandfriends.org if you’re interested in receiving our ministry prayer requests.

Do you have a need today? Tell us how we can pray for you and our team will be happy to lift your request before the Throne of Grace. Thank you for the privilege of praying for you and for the joy of knowing that you are doing the same for us!

4. Volunteer with Joni and Friends

Disability Ministry is everybody's ministry, and everyone can make a difference. Joni and Friends exists because of the hundreds of dedicated volunteers. We need your support and participation to share the gospel message, equip churches for disability ministry, and serve those affected by disability worldwide.

There are many opportunities to serve with Joni and Friends both locally and around the world!

  • Participate with a Family Retreat or Wheels for the World outreach as a Short-Term Missionary.
  • Connect with one of our Area Ministries and serve in your local community.
  • Join our team of volunteers at the International Disability Center headquarters in Agoura Hills, CA and assist us in the following areas: donor appreciation, grant research, general office assistance, or as a tour docent.

To learn more about becoming a volunteer, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at volunteers@joniandfriends.org, call us at 818-707-5664 or download the application to begin.

5. Transform Your Church and Community

The Joni and Friends Irresistible Church booklet series provides practical steps and activities that put flesh around the heart of the Church. Luke 14 calls us to ‘invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind ... make them come in so my house will be full.’ Would you like to see your church and community welcome all people?  Download these free resources to help the ministry you are already doing include people impacted by disability.

No matter what your resolution, we pray that God will prepare you for all that He has in store for you in 2019! And as you continue in to the new year, make a space for God in the center for your life. Take a moment to celebrate all that He has done this year and ground your resolutions in Him. Because friend, Proverbs 16:3 tells us to “commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”
